Sometimes when you're editing a complex book in Word, you can
end up with a huge list of styles, which take forever to scroll through if
you
use the normal style box. One way to get around this is to set up your own
toolbar with your styles on it.
The following instructions apply to Word X for Mac, but other versions
of Word will have a similar solution.
Go to View > Toolbars > Customize...
Click on the New... button and you
will be prompted to give it a name, say, Styles.
The new toolbar will be added
to the list. Make sure the tick box next to the name is selected, and
the toolbar will appear on the
screen.
Now go to the Commands tab in the same dialogue box.
In the Categories: list
on the left, scroll down to Styles and click on this. You will then see
a list of all the active styles
in your
document in the Commands list on the right.
Now simply drag the styles you want onto
the toolbar. You can place them in any order you wish.
You can also shape
the toolbar into a horizontal bar or a vertical bar by clicking and dragging
on the bottom right-hand
corner
of the toolbar.
Drag the toolbar to where you would like
it to live and hey presto! you have a list of styles which you can apply
by simply
clicking
on the name.
No more
scrolling!
